(EN\u25baEN\/ES\/FR\/IT\/PT)"},"content":{"rendered":"<input type='hidden' bg_collapse_expand='69da27b77364b5079846956' value='69da27b77364b5079846956'><input type='hidden' id='bg-show-more-text-69da27b77364b5079846956' value='Open for full transcript'><input type='hidden' id='bg-show-less-text-69da27b77364b5079846956' value='Close'><button id='bg-showmore-action-69da27b77364b5079846956' class='bg-showmore-plg-button bg-green-button bg-arrow '   style=\" color:#4a4949;\">Open for full transcript<\/button><div id='bg-showmore-hidden-69da27b77364b5079846956' ><\/p>\n<p>Why does the United States support Israel?<br \/>\nWell, there&#8217;s a history&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>and a very interesting one&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>that actually goes back to&#8230;<br \/>\ngoes back a long time.<\/p>\n<p>one thing to remember is that&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Christian Zionism<br \/>\nis a very powerful force&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>which goes back<br \/>\nlong before Jewish Zionism.<\/p>\n<p>In England particularly<br \/>\nChristian Zionism was. a..<\/p>\n<p>powerful Force Among British Elites.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s part of the motivation<br \/>\nfor the Balfour declaration&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>and for Britain&#8217;s support for&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Jewish Colonization of Israel,<br \/>\n&#8220;remember, the bible said&#8230;.&#8221; you know.<\/p>\n<p>And that&#8217;s a big part of<br \/>\nBritish Elite Culture.<\/p>\n<p>Same in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Woodrow Wilson was a&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>devout Christian<br \/>\nwho read the Bible every day.<\/p>\n<p>So did harry Truman.<\/p>\n<p>In the Roosevelt administration,<\/p>\n<p>one of the leading officials,<br \/>\nHarold Ickes, once described&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>the return of the jews to Palestine<br \/>\nas the greatest event in history.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s realizing the lesson of the bible.<\/p>\n<p>These are deeply religious countries&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>in which the Biblical command, so-called,<br \/>\nare taken quite literally.<\/p>\n<p>Also, this is just part of colonization.<\/p>\n<p>This is the last phase<br \/>\nof European Colonization.<\/p>\n<p>And notice that the countries that are<br \/>\nmost strongly in support of Israel&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>are not just the United States.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s the United States, Australia, and Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The offshoots of England,<br \/>\nAnglosphere sometimes called.<\/p>\n<p>Unusual forms of imperialism.<\/p>\n<p>These are settler colonial societies.<\/p>\n<p>Coloned societies in which the&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>(not like India&#8230;<br \/>\nnot like the British in India, say.)<\/p>\n<p>Societies, South Africa, was a little like this,<br \/>\nor Algeria under the French.<\/p>\n<p>Settler colonial societies<br \/>\nin which the settlers came in,<\/p>\n<p>essentially<br \/>\neliminated the native population&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>also driven by religious principles,<br \/>\nvery religious groups driven by Christian Zionism.<\/p>\n<p>Those are major cultural factors.<\/p>\n<p>There are also significant<br \/>\ngeostrategic factors.<\/p>\n<p>You go back to 1948&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>There was actually a split&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>between the state department<br \/>\nand the Pentagon in the United States&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>over how to react<br \/>\nto the new state of Israel.<\/p>\n<p>The State Department was&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>it was not committed strongly<br \/>\nto Israeli conquests,<\/p>\n<p>the establishment of the state,<br \/>\nand was concerned about the refugees.<\/p>\n<p>It wanted an implementation<br \/>\nof the refugee problem.<\/p>\n<p>The Pentagon, on the other hand,<\/p>\n<p>Reckitt was very impressed<br \/>\nwith Israel&#8217;s military potential.<\/p>\n<p>The Israeli military successes.<\/p>\n<p>If you look back at the internal record,<br \/>\nin declassified,<\/p>\n<p>the Joint chiefs of staff described<br \/>\nIsrael as the&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>second largest military force<br \/>\nin the region after Turkey&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>and a potential base<br \/>\nfor US power in the region.<\/p>\n<p>That continued.<br \/>\n(I) Can&#8217;t run through the whole record,<\/p>\n<p>but in 1958 when there was<br \/>\na serious crisis in the region&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Israel was the only state that strongly cooperated<br \/>\nwith Britain and the United States&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And it won plenty of support from the governments<br \/>\nand the military for that reason.<\/p>\n<p>1967 is when the current relations with Israel<br \/>\nwere pretty much established.<\/p>\n<p>Israel performed a major service<br \/>\nto the United States&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>by destroying secular Arab nationalism,<br \/>\na major enemy of the United States,<\/p>\n<p>and supporting radical Islam<br \/>\nwhich the U.S. supported.<\/p>\n<p>And it continues right until the present.<\/p>\n<p>Right now, we saw an example of that<br \/>\njust during the latest Gaza attack.<\/p>\n<p>You recall that at one point<br \/>\nIsrael began to run out of munitions&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>during the assault despite the fact<br \/>\nthat it&#8217;s a armed to the teeth&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>that the United States provided Israel<br \/>\nwith additional munitions through the Pentagon.<\/p>\n<p>And notice where they were taken from.<\/p>\n<p>These were U.S. munitions<br \/>\npre-positioned in Israel&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>for eventual use by U.S. Forces.<\/p>\n<p>One of many signs of how Israel<br \/>\nis regarded as essentially a&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>military offshoot of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Very close intelligence relations<br \/>\nthat go way back.<\/p>\n<p>Many other connections.<\/p>\n<p>And the media tend&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>to support the policy of the government&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>with very few kind of<br \/>\nlittle questioning around the edges,<\/p>\n<p>but basically accept the policy.<\/p>\n<p>So for example take another issue,<br \/>\ntake the U.S. invasion of Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>You cannot find the phrase<br \/>\n&#8220;U.S. invasion of Iraq&#8221; in the U.S. media.<\/p>\n<p>There was obviously an invasion.<\/p>\n<p>A blatant act of aggression,<br \/>\na textbook case of&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>what the Nuremberg trials called<br \/>\n&#8220;The Supreme International Crime.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cannot be mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>President Obama is praised<br \/>\nas an opponent of the invasion<\/p>\n<p>What did he say?<\/p>\n<p>He said it&#8217;s a mistake. It&#8217;s a strategic blunder.<br \/>\nWe&#8217;re not going to get away with it.<\/p>\n<p>Now that&#8217;s the kind of opposition that&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>you heard from the German general staff<br \/>\nduring Hitler&#8217;s invasion of Russia.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a blunder. Shouldn&#8217;t do it.<br \/>\nWe should knock off. England first.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s regarded as opposition.<br \/>\nThe same in Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s now a commemoration underway.<\/p>\n<p>A big commemoration<br \/>\nof U.S. sacrifices in Vietnam<\/p>\n<p>Try to find the phrase:<br \/>\n&#8220;U.S. invasion of South Vietnam&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>there or anywhere in the past years<br \/>\nsince 1961 when it took place.<\/p>\n<p>Nonexistent.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe on &#8220;Democracy Now&#8221;,<br \/>\nby what I write, but way out of the fringe.<\/p>\n<p>And this is not unique<br \/>\nto the United States<\/p>\n<p>Take, say, Britain.<\/p>\n<p>Right now there&#8217;s interesting debates<br \/>\nin the British literary journals,<\/p>\n<p>like the times literary supplement,<\/p>\n<p>as to whether britain should finally begin<br \/>\nto recognize the genocidal,<\/p>\n<p>the word that&#8217;s used,<\/p>\n<p>genocidal character of British Colonization.<br \/>\nHundreds of years ago!<\/p>\n<p>Should Britain begin to face it?<br \/>\nYou can ask that question in many places.<\/p>\n<p>The tendency<br \/>\nof the intellectual community&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>to go along like a herd<br \/>\nin support of&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>state power, private power<br \/>\nis just overwhelming<\/p>\n<p>intellectuals like to think of themselves as<\/p>\n<p>dissident, critical, courageous,<br \/>\nstanding up against power.<\/p>\n<p>Absolutely untrue.<\/p>\n<p>You look at the historical record,<br \/>\nthat&#8217;s a small fringe, and they&#8217;re usually punished.<\/p>\n<p>The mainstream tends to be&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>what was once called<br \/>\n&#8220;a herd of independent minds&#8221;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>marching in support of State power<\/p>\n<p>Nothing new here.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunate.<br \/>\nYou have to fight against it. Not new.<\/p>\n<p><\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Christian Zionism is older than Jewish Zionism<\/span> and is a powerful force in England and its elite. It&#8217;s part of the motivation for the Balfour Declaration and British support for Jewish colonization of Israel. The <\/em><em>letter, known as the &#8220;Balfour Declaration&#8221; became the basis movement to create <\/em><em>a Jewish state in Palestine.
